Brewing for a better today and tomorrow: Carlsberg Marston’s Brewing Company releases ESG Report 2022

The second ESG Report from Carlsberg Marston’s Brewing Company (CMBC) has been published today.

The report provides a summary of CMBC’s progress towards our ESG targets in 2022 – our second full year as a company following the joint venture between Carlsberg UK and Marston’s Beer Company.

Acting on our commitments as part of Carlsberg Group’s Together Towards ZERO sustainability programme, CMBC has helped Carlsberg Group achieve the majority of their 2022 interim targets across ZERO carbon footprint, ZERO water waste, ZERO irresponsible drinking and ZERO accidents culture.

During 2022 we also introduced our updated Together Towards ZERO & Beyond (TTZAB) ESG programme. This saw additional targets added and new focus areas for ZERO farming footprint and ZERO packaging waste. Despite challenges, CMBC has seen positive developments towards achieving these targets and have areas where we know more work is required.

CMBC’s 2022 ESG Report showcases the vital projects undertaken over the past year to help realise our ambitions. These include:

  • The continued integration of our systems to improve health and safety reporting, training, and awareness
  • Increasing the availability and appeal of alcohol-free options to customers
  • Continuing to roll out our innovative Snap Pack packaging and launching the KK Clip packaging – both replacing plastic rings
  • Making a strong start to our regenerative barley initiative, with the first farmers signed up to take part
  • The continuation of the exciting partnership between the Carlsberg brand with WWF in the UK to restore vital seagrass along the UK coastline
  • Launching our first two electric HGVs, delivering to customers out of our Essex and Thurrock depots

Paul Davies, CEO, Carlsberg Marston’s Brewing Company comments: “Probably more than ever our collective responsibilities shape our view on the world and so too, businesses should look for the ways in which they can address the issues that matter most and lead the change in their sector. It is essential that we work collaboratively across CMBC and our value chain – with our suppliers and our On and Off Trade customers – for collective success.

TTZAB is central to Carlsberg Group’s new SAIL’27 business strategy to drive company growth and resilience. Through the effort and dedication of CMBC’s people, we are playing a key role realising our purpose of brewing for a better today and tomorrow.
